End-of-Year Meeting on Marco Island

On May 11, 2013, Members of Delta Pi Delta Alumnae Chapter met at the Island Country Club on Marco Island, Florida, for their final meeting of the 2012-2013 year. Rosemary Zakoian was our hostess. After lunch, the group was treated to a presentation by members of the Marco Island Historical Society Re-enactors, Kathy and Ed Miracco. The Miraccos brought to life two historical figures, Doctors Mary and Charles Olds, (1903-1918) who were Marco Island pioneers. Dr. Charles Olds, a homoeopathic doctor by profession, owned and operated a successful business growing and selling fruit. Dr. Mary Olds, also a doctor of homeopathy, .raised three daughters on Marco. The daughters kept diaries, and one daughter was an avid photographer. Together with their frequent letter-writing, these women supplied a gold mine of historical data to future generations. Although this was the last meeting of the year, plans are being made for our annual beachside luncheon at the Sandpiper Restaurant at Pelican Bay in North Naples. It will take place in July, and our hostesses, Scottie Flatley and Fran Boston, will give us more information as it becomes available.
