On January 11, 2014, members of Delta Pi Delta Alumnae Chapter met at The Club at Barefoot Beach in Bonita Springs, Florida. The Club is located directly on the Gulf of Mexico and offered a beautiful view of the water while we had lunch. We were honored to have as our guest Chris Bush, who is the Province Alumnae Chairman (PAC) for six chapters of Alpha Chi alumnae in Southwest Florida. Chris was a Theta at the University of Michigan. She was very complimentary of our chapter’s organization and accomplishments. We welcomed new member Pat Pautler and guests Ken Halvorson and Don Glenton.
Our guest speaker was Lieutenant Chad Parker from the Collier County Sheriff’s Office in Naples, Florida. He spoke on identity theft, which was an especially relevant topic because Florida has had the dubious honor of being the number one state for ID theft for the last six years. Lt Parker discussed the methods criminals use to steal identities, and we were floored at the ingenuity some crooks show in stealing them. He urged us to use debit rather than credit cards, to never give out vital information over the phone or in emails, to never let a credit card out of our sight when paying a bill, and to keep a close eye on our accounts online. He also gave us a Fraud Hotline to call if we are victims of fraud and measures we can take if our identity is stolen.
