Delta Pi Delta Members Celebrate Hera Day in SW Florida

Hera Day is a special day for all Alpha Chis, and it was a special day for members of Delta Pi Delta Alumnae Chapter when they celebrated at Worthington Country Club in Bonita Springs on Saturday, March 8, 2014. Shirley Blake was our hostess. During the business meeting, the installation of officers for 2014-2016 took place. The officers are Shirley Blake and Ann Farrell, who continue as Co-Presidents; Susan Halvorson and Amy Pettit, Co-Vice Presidents in charge of programs; and Brenda Manley Corres, Corresponding Secretary.

Two members who received their fifty-year pins were Linda Hanley and Beverly Wagner (Ronda Hill was not present.) Five members received their sixty-year pins: they were Esther Lawson, Carol Meneely, Doris Pilliod, Lyndal Simon and Rosemary Zakoian. In the name of our patron goddess, Hera,  members of the alumnae chapter who have contributed to the welfare or happiness of others are honored with a red carnation. This year, Delta Pi Delta members have amassed over 10,000 volunteer hours. Each volunteer received a red carnation in recognition of her contribution.

As a way to show their appreciation for Alpha Chi Omega, each member said a few words about the ways in which Alpha Chi and other Alpha Chis had affected their lives. Also, two of the founding members of Delta Pi Delta, Sandi Chetwynd and Mary Herndon, described the beginnings of the alumnae chapter forty years ago and its rapid growth since then. Past National President Judy Anderson gave a presentation on the current status of Alpha Chi Omega nationally and outlined long-term goals for the sorority. Kim Phillips from National Headquarters described the Alpha Chi Foundation programs, which include finding leadership opportunities, financial planning, volunteer training and domestic violence awareness.

ANNUAL FUNDRAISER AND FASHION SHOW AT BONITA BAY CLUB

Members of Delta Pi Delta Alumnae Chapter of Alpha Chi Omega held their annual fundraiser and fashion show at Bonita Bay Club in Bonita Springs, Florida, on February 8, 2014. In the morning, some members and their guests got together to play cards and games, and others joined them at lunchtime. After lunch,  a fashion show was presented by Dillard’s Department Store from  Coastland Center Mall  in Naples, Florida, and our own members modeled fashions from the store. A raffle of donated items was part of the fundraising efforts. Our fundraising goes to support our philanthropies, the shelters for abused women in Collier, Charlotte and Lee County, and the Alpha Chi Omega Foundation, whose mission is to educate and empower women
