Annual Fundraiser and Fashion Show

On February 11, 2012, Delta Pi Delta Alumnae Chapter members met at the Country Club of Naples for their Annual Fundraiser and Fashion Show. On this day, members are encouraged to bring their friends to play cards and other games, as well as to share the luncheon and to enjoy the fashion show afterwards. We had especially good participation this year; more than ninety women gathered to celebrate the day and our friendship. Avid card players began the day at 10:00 AM, and an excellent lunch and a fashion show followed. The fashion show was presented by the J. McLaughlin Shop in Venetian Village in Naples, Florida. The Manager of J. McLaughlin just happens to be the daughter of our member, Esther Lawson, who wore a very becoming outfit from the store. Models for the show were our very own members. J. McLaughlin had an array of fashions for purchase at the meeting, and planned to donate back to our chapter 15% of all purchases made at the meeting and also for a week following the meeting.

Delta Pi Delta January 2012 Luncheon

On January 14, 2012, Delta Pi Delta alumnae of Alpha Chi Omega sorority met at Pelican Marsh Country Club in Naples, Florida. After a lovely luncheon with Scottie Flatley as our hostess, Karna Small Bodman, now a part-time resident of Naples, made a presentation on her past as a member of the Reagan White House staff and on her present as a writer of international intrigue. Karna has written three political thrillers, her most recent being Final Finesse, which she brought to the Delta Pi Delta luncheon. Because she was a White House staffer, her novels have the air of authenticity that only insiders can give to contemporary political machinations, international politics and West Wing strategizing. At one point in her career, Karna was the deputy to Press Secretary James Brady. She told a rather chilling story about what happened on the day that Ronald Reagan and James Brady were shot, and why, fortunately for her, she hadn’t accompanied them on that fateful day. Karna also gave us some insight into the writing process, weaving the experiences she had had during her White House career into her story-writing and relating how the country’s national defense and security issues inspired the plot of her latest novel, Final Finesse. Karna has a website if anyone would like more information about her. The address is: www.karnabodman.com .
