On October 11, members of Delta Pi Delta Alumnae Chapter started off the 2014-2015 season with a potluck salad luncheon, which has become an annual event for the first meeting of the year. Members met in the pavilion of Estero Bay Park, a large, light, airy screened-in garden room with a high-peaked roof topped by a lookout tower. The pavilion is set in a tropical environment among the High-Rises of Bonita Bay. The salads were many and varied, with a few desserts, too, and were the perfect meal for this still-very-warm fall day in southwest Florida.
After lunch, the guest speaker was Jean Lewis, who goes by the pen name, “Maurice on Books.” Jean reviews books on her weblog www.mauriceonbooks.wordpress.com and her book reviews appear in the “Collier Citizen” section of the Naples Daily News. Jean brought along with her many new and upcoming books that she thought would be of interest to our members. She gave a brief synopsis of the books that she recommended to our membership and also gave away some of the books to a few lucky members

An uninvited guest
This gopher tortoise is indigenous to the southeastern United States and normally isn't very far from the burrow it digs for its shelter. But it is herbivorous, which explains why it crashed our luncheon in order to share our salads.
