Delta Pi Delta Fashion Show/Fundraiser at Bonita Bay Country Club

On Valentine’s Day, 2015, members of Delta Pi Delta Alumnae Chapter of Alpha Chi Omega Sorority met at the Bonita Bay Country Club for their annual fashion show/fundraiser. On this day, members are encouraged to bring their friends to play cards and other games, as well as to share the luncheon and enjoy the fashion show afterwards. Many guests accompanied their Alpha Chi friends and raised the total number of attendees to a high of 84. There were a number of very desirable items that were donated for the raffle, for which members bought tickets. The annual fashion show featured J. McLaughlin from the Village on Venetian Bay in Naples. Our own Alpha Chis modeled the clothes, and Pam Lawson was the mistress of ceremonies. Pam is the manager there and also the daughter of Alpha Chi, Esther Lawson. Everyone had a big surprise when, right after the fashion show, the models distributed shopping bags from J McLaughlin to members. What was inside the shopping bag was even more surprising--beautiful, quite large, flowy scarves from Pam’s shop, and there were scarves of different colors and patterns in the bags. Thanks a million, Pam! The February Birthday Girls were Valary Banker, Sue Halvorson, Ann Farrell, Sasha Williams, and this day of days, Valentine’s Day, is Mary Herndon’s birthday.

On this Valentine’s Day, Alpha Chi Omega goes to the right, and Delta Gamma to the left. It is a coincidence that another sorority has a luncheon on the same day as ours.

Ann is drawing a winning raffle ticket out of a bag held by Linda, and Shirley is standing by, mic in hand.

Ginny won a “bouquet” of cleaning products.

Kim won an orchid.

Caroline won a bottle of bubbly.

Shirley really wanted to win this “heart” necklace made by her friend, Phyllis.

After the luncheon and fashion show, Nancy K and Nancy M depart Bonita Bay Country Club on a jitney ride to the parking lot.

 Bye-bye, Bonita Bay.

A New Year begins for Delta Pi Delta

The venue for the first Delta Pi Delta Luncheon of the new year was Windstar Country Club in Naples, Florida, on January 10, 2015. The featured speaker was Shannon Holland, a certified financial planner. Shannon introduced us to the phrase, “Shirtsleeves to shirtsleeves in three generations,” an expression that describes failure in the successful transfer of wealth from generation to generation; that is, the older generation works hard and amasses wealth, the second generation enjoys the wealth and fails to increase it, the third generation has no experience of work and consumes the fortune, and the fourth generation ends up with nothing and has to go back to work.  Shannon gave reasons why the transfer of wealth to inheritors often results in failure and described strategies to transfer wealth to inheritors successfully.
